Folders & rules
Budget folders and auto-file rules
Folders are where your plan lives. Rules keep it tidy without you doing the same chore every week.
Folders work like envelopes
Each folder gets an amount for the month: Groceries $650, Gas $180, and so on. When a purchase is filed into a folder, its remaining amount goes down, so you can see at a glance what's left. Group related folders together and reorder them however you like.
The Inbox: nothing gets lost
New purchases arrive in your Inbox. Drag one onto a folder to file it, or edit it first. A purchase that was part groceries and part household? Split it across folders in a couple of taps, and BudgetBucks makes sure it adds up.
Auto-file rules: the regulars file themselves
File the same store into the same folder twice and BudgetBucks offers to do it for you from then on. You can also create rules yourself from the Rules page.
- Simple: the merchant includes these words, file in this folder.
- Test before you save: see which past purchases a rule would match.
- No surprises: every auto-filed purchase shows the rule that filed it, with one-tap Undo.
- No conflicts: BudgetBucks won't let you save two rules that fight over the same purchase.
- Going forward: rules apply to new purchases, not your history.
Why this matters
The less sorting you do, the more likely you are to keep going. Rules take the repetitive part off your plate so your attention goes to the decisions that matter. Pair them with real-time budgeting and your budget mostly keeps itself current.
